Alive on Mars

This hollow, tube-like object on Mars looks surprisingly artificial at first glance. Its smooth opening and elongated shape make it stand out from the surrounding rocks. However, such formations can occur naturally through erosion, where wind and sand slowly carve softer material over time. Mars often creates shapes that resemble familiar objects from Earth. It’s another example of how the Red Planet plays tricks on our perception. Still, discoveries like this keep the mystery alive natural formation or something worth a closer look?

NEW Planet Mars Footage

The Mars rover Perseverance touched down in Jezero Crater on Mars in early 2021. This crater was chosen as it appeared to have been a lake several billion years ago and scientists believed that it might show evidence of ancient life.
The rover has been collecting rocks from this ancient lakebed for several years now.
In 2024 the rover drilled into a rock and obtained a rock sample named Sapphire Canyon. It was covered in small black spots that scientists named ‘poppy seeds’ and also had larger spots, lighter in the center with dark borders, that scientists called ‘leopard spots’. The rover used a special instrument to analyse the rock and found it had organic compounds. It still wasn’t proof of life but the evidence was pointing in that direction.
Fast forward to 2025 and a new study involving a wide range of scientists on these spots has been undertaken and it states that the most likely answer to what created these spots is processes with a biological origin, although Mars life has still not been confirmed.
Scientists are excited about the results but the only way to finally confirm if life once existed on Mars is to bring the sample to Earth for further study using more specialist equipment. A Mars Sample Return mission was planned but suffered from NASA budget cuts. We might have a while to wait before life on Mars is finally confirmed.
